Since we have just over a week in Maryland before we head to Tennessee .. we're trying to make a lot of progress on our house. We've been in non-stop project mode, but I wanted to stop in quickly to share what we've been up to!
First, it's kinda surreal to be starting on our first house project - definitely something that we've dreamed about for a while! When we were just in a rental, I remember walking past the tile section and wishing that we could be doing that ..
I'll be doing more detailed posts later on our process and what we've learned, but for now here's a few pics. I've got to get back to work!
The standard builder grade looking tile has been removed. David's Dad had a hammer drill that we could borrow - love living close enough to borrow tools!
We got an attachment for the angle grinder that easily leveled the extra thin set.
We removed the excess beams from the old closet .. this is NOT structural :) These were oak vs. pine (like the rest of the house) and added after the house was built. They were only held up with a few nails and came out in about a minute. We even found the original floor underneath (greenish black vinyl tile) It is so much more open now - lets that gorgeous ceiling shine!
Annabelle enjoyed some time on the deck while we worked. Squirrel heaven here.
Last night (actually early this morning) we finished installing the backer board. Now we're ready for PAINT and to install the new tile! Here's a pic from when we were cutting it to fit.
Things are taking a little longer than we thought, but I guess that's to be expected since this is our first time installing tile. We hope to make lots of progress before the end of the week!
I'll be posting images as we go on instagram with the hashtag #projectentry, if you'd like to follow along!
